CLUB NEWS

Things are going swimmingly well at World Masters Games!

Just a quick up-date mid-week on the World Masters Games where North Sydney Masters are making their mark. Results and schedule for the rest of the week can be found at:

NNS Status after the women's 200 Back:

While the men are holding their own with Dan Mitchell bringing home bronze and 2 silvers in the 800, 400, and 200 free respectively, Ian Hemmings setting a new national record in the 100 back and collecting a medal in the 50 back, and Alan Godfrey also claiming a medal in the 100 back, while John Wynberg brought home a silver in the 50 fly, it is the women are setting the pace on the medal haul. The women have been lead by Louise Stevenson with 3 gold medals so far followed by Gillian O'Mara with 2 silver and a gold, Mel Speet with a silver, Melissa Beames with a silver, Robyn Burton with a silver and Christina Echols with 2 bronze and a silver. Our oldest member (90 years old), Mort Bagley has also collected a couple medals of his own in the 50 and 100 back. More individual medals are expected in the last 3 days of competition.

(Apologies if anyone was missed on the medals - there's have been so many, they are hard to keep track of!).

On the relay side of things, North Sydney has also collected 2 silvers and a bronze as well as 5 top 10 relay finishes. Considering we are competing against teams not anchored to specific clubs, these are great results again with high expectations for Thursday and Friday.

Watch out for the Open Water on Saturday at Chowder Bay where a few brave souls will take to the frigid waters in the 3km swim.

Full meet report will follow at the end of the Games.

Christina Echols

Pool Captain
