NSW SC State Champs
13 swimmers competed at the NSW SC Championships in Canberra on Aug 29-30. Even though not all swimmers could stay for both days, the team still managed to place 5th in the large team category with the limited number of swimmers and swims. With 5 relays total, we also placed 5th overall in relays with 3 firsts and 2 seconds.
Individual highlight swims included: Gillian O’Mara lowering her 50 Fr national record by 3/100ths to 27.83, Melissa Beams breaking the 30 second barrier with a 29.51 50 Fr, Louise Stevenson reducing her 200 Fr National record to 2:09.70, and newcomer Ian Hemmings setting 3 new club records including a 1:04 100 backstroke. On an aggregate basis, Louise Stevenson, Gillian O’Mara, and Christina Echols all won their individual age groups.
Louise Stevenson is focused on World Masters Games, so followed up with a second weekend of racing at the Tasmanian Championships in Hobart on Sept 5-6. She took another THREE seconds off her national 200 Fr record in a hot time of 2:06.52 along with some very fast times in 400Fr, 200 IM and 400 IM. Cheer for Louise at World Masters Games where she is looking to break a few world records.
Up next – 17 swimmers are warming up for World Masters Games at the Ryde Carnival on Sept 19 and then 20 or so North Sydney swimmers will be taking on the World at World Masters Games at Homebush from Oct 10-18.
